Description Title: Instructor, CC (Physical Science) Position Number: 82851 Hiring Unit: Hawaii Community College Location: Hilo Date Posted: February 27, 2024 Closing Date: March 20, 2024 Salary Information: C2C09, Minimum $4,507.
00 per month Monthly Type: 9 Month Tenure Track: Tenure Full Time/Part Time: Full Time Temporary/Permanent: Permanent Other Conditions: General funds, to begin approximately August 2024, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements.
This assignment may include teaching on- and off-campus, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education assignments using multiple teaching methodologies.
Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision to conduct college transfer level lecture and laboratory courses in, but not limited to, Physics or other related courses as assigned (such as Geophysics, Oceanography, Chemistry, and/or Astronomy).
Maintain the lab and work with the lab assistant to procure supplies and equipment.
Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations for a scientific laboratory.
Integrate instruction of appropriate quantitative/logical thinking skills into course content, Prepare, revise, and access course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program and college levels.
Conduct academic advising of students and assist with campus-related activities.
Participate in department, college, and community service activities as appropriate.
Develop and maintain a program of professional self-development activities.
Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments, including assessment.
Work with colleagues and independently to develop curriculum and to identify, plan, develop, and implement teaching strategies to meet college, and community needs.
Maintain office hours.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s in Physics Desirable Qualification: Master’s in Astronomy.
Demonstrated ability to teach major and non-major general Physics at community college or university.
Knowledge of community college philosophy.
Demonstrated ability to teach in online and hybrid environments, as well as to integrate technology to support learning inside and outside the traditional classroom.
Familiarity or experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to work with peers and students in a multicultural setting.
Good communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.
Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
