Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision of the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and in coordination with Hawai'i Life Styles faculty and staff, primary duties include: curriculum research, development, and instruction of Hawai'i Life Styles courses and working with STEM faculty and staff for pathways/intersections with HWST courses and teaching, teach approved courses as directed at Hawai'i CC.
Teach college transfer/non-transfer level Hawaiian courses in language, history, religion, plants, oral literature, mythology, music, arts & crafts, fishing, trails, culture, and/or leadership in the Hawai'i Life Styles Certificate and A.

Prepare, revise, and assess course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and college levels.
In coordination with the staff and faculty from Hawai'i Life Styles and STEM – plan, organize, and facilitate trainings on pathways/intersections between STEM and Hawaiian Studies and how to incorporate into STEM curriculum.
In coordination with the Hawai'i Life Styles program and Ha'akumalae Protocols Program, plan, participate and assist and/or facilitate Native Hawaiian protocol training and workshops (kihei, hei, oli, etc) at the Hawai'i CC Palamanui campus.
In coordination with the staff and faculty from the Hawaii Life Styles program and Ha'akumalae Protocols Program, participate in any and all kipaepae, including but not limited to, commencement, Palamanui ho'ike events, and Mamoe ceremonies.
Participate actively in Hawai'i Papa O Ke Ao Indigenizing the University of Hawai'i on the state, college and program levels.
Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
Prepare, revise, and assess course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and college levels.
Conduct academic advising of students and assist in campus-related activities.
Participate in division, college and community service activities as appropriate.
Develop and maintain a program of professional self-development activities.
Collect data and prepare reports.
Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
Assignments may be performed at other College locations island-wide, including in Hilo, Kailua-Kona, and Honoka'a.

Minimum Qualifications: (a) Master's Degree in Hawaiian Studies;OR (b) Master's Degree in Hawaiian language with at least 9 credits of advanced (300-400 level courses offered in a bachelor's program) and/or graduate level coursework (post baccalaureate courses at the level specified by the institution where the credits were earned) focused on Native Hawaiian areas;OR (c) Bachelor's Degree in Hawaiian Studies plus 3 years of related work experience;OR (d) Master's Degree with at least 15 credits of advanced (300-400 level courses offered in a bachelor's program) and/or graduate level coursework (post baccalaureate courses at the level specified by the institution where the credits were earned) or research topic focused on Native Hawaiian areas;OR (e) Master recognition in a specific area of Hawaiian knowledge as recognized by the Hawaiian community in that area plus 10 years of related work experience.
Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrate special skills and knowledge in Hawaiian Studies Courses.
Experience in working with Native Hawaiian communities and learners.
Ability to understand, identify and demonstrate pathways/intersections between STEM and Native Hawaiian culture.
Comprehensive demonstrative portfolio of formal Hawaiian cultural training and practices.
Native or near native fluency in Hawaiian language (at least 4 years of Hawaiian Language or manaleo).
Community college teaching experience.
Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff and community members from diverse backgrounds (especially rural communities).
Successful working relationship with community agencies, private sector groups, educational institutions, and/or other organizations engaging with native Hawaiian community and natural resources.
Knowledge and understanding of the community college Kauhale and philosophy.
