The UH-Hilo geology department offers bachelor’s degrees in geology, with specialties in volcanology and environmental geology.
The Department of Geology houses teaching laboratories in petrology, a geoarchaeology lab with a ThermoNoran Quant’X EDXRF; faculty also have access to facilities housed in the UH-Hilo Analytical Laboratory, the UH-Hilo Spatial Data and Analysis Laboratory, and potentially facilities and equipment housed at HVO.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach a variety of undergraduate courses, including introductory geology and introductory labs, introduction to earthquakes and volcanoes, introduction to environmental geology, and upper division elective courses.
Expertise in geological remote sensing, comparative planetology, or low-temperature (environmental) geochemistry.
The anticipated teaching load for this position is 12 credits (3-4 courses depending on laboratory requirements) per semesterMinimum Qualifications Instructor: 1.
Master’s degree in geology or related field at time of application2.
Teaching experience at the undergraduate level 3.
High-quality oral and written communication skills.
