Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinates, implements, and processes various financial aid programs, such as but not limited to the Federal Pell Grant, internal and external grants and scholarships, student employment, Federal Work-Study, federal and private loans, default management, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), and Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4).
Oversee daily tasks and coordinate projects, including but not limited to packaging and overaward review and adjustments, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) corrections and updates, dependency overrides, and Satisfactory Academic Progress appeals.
Identifies and corrects student records to ensure course applicability to the student's program of study.
Oversees projects and procedures, and monitors department staff to ensure adherence to all federal, state, and institutional reporting and reconciling requirements related to the management and administration of Title IV, Higher Education Act (HEA), state, and institutional student financial aid programs.
Maintains a high level of expertise and helps create policies and procedures for compliance with federal, state, and institutional laws, rules, and regulations related to the administration of financial aid programs.
Develop, contribute, review, and revise written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for financial aid processes and programs.
Reviews regular financial aid reports and completes associated tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
Coordinates and provides customer services to prospective, new, and current students, and community and kauhale members.
Establishes, coordinates, implements and provides training and outreach to students, faculty, staff, and student employees related to financial aid programs, financial literacy education, and financial aid policies and procedures.
Develops and maintains outreach presentations and materials.
Participates in national, regional, state, and/or local training opportunities related to student financial aid and financial literacy education, including but not limited to Federal Student Aid (FSA) conferences, National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) courses and webinars, and Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (WASFAA) training events.
Collaborates with financial aid colleagues and utilizes training resources to enhance expertise and keep current with ever-changing financial aid laws, rules, and regulations.
Updates and shares knowledge with team members as necessary.
Collaborates with Hawai`i CC Kauhale and UH system departments to support institutional and UH system student success initiatives, such as strategic awarding and financial aid outreach.
Provides supervision and leadership for the Financial Aid Office when the Financial Aid Manager is not present, or as needed to support office functions and objectives.
Duties may involve evening and weekend hours at on-campus and off-campus locations.
Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business, Education, Communication, Public Administration, Social Science, Finance, or related field, and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience within the field of financial aid or higher education student services; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of financial aid as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, theories, and systems associated with the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid, or financial literacy education programs.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging, complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic in order to accurately determine the cause and resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative, and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Desirable Qualifications: Experience working with community college students.
Experience in financial aid, counseling, admissions, student support services, or professional experience in higher education.
Training or experience in conflict management.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service across a variety of media and modalities.
