Duties and Responsibilities (* denotes essential functions): 1.
** Provides staff support in the following field of assignment or subject matter area: college administrative and academic support services.
2.
** Assists College Director and administrative personnel in expediting the work of the College.
3.
** Participates, contributes, and supports the mission and goals of the College of Hawaiian Language based upon the Kumu Honua Mauli Ola Hawai'i philosophy.
4.
** Plans, coordinates, and welcomes (student groups, community groups, elected officials, international dignitaries, etc.
) by cultivating proper cultural protocol in Hawaiian and English where good judgment is required to provide sound service.
5.
** Greet and screen walk-in visitors and incoming calls, making referrals as appropriate; handles sensitive and confidential information in responding to inquiries and requests in Hawaiian and English where good judgment is required to provide sound service.
6.
Assists senior specialists in the performance of detailed and routine work, e.
g.
provide support for College events, including but not limited to planning, coordinating, communicating, marketing (designing flyers and appropriate signage), promoting, purchasing (as authorized purchaser), and providing logistical support including set-up and breakdown of event.
7.
Assists higher level personnel in the performance of assigned duties, e.
g.
assist faculty with proctoring quizzes and exams in Hawaiian and English.
8.
Learns and applies methods, techniques, and principles of the specialty area, e.
g.
designs and maintains shared program data forms (google forms & documents) in Hawaiian and English for efficient collection, processing and retrieval.
9.
Proofreads and reviews documents and correspondence for overall effect in accordance with specifications; correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and consistency of style and format for both English and Hawaiian.
10.
Independently performs moderately complex assignments, e.
g.
, Initiates, coordinates, submits, and manages travel requests funded by the University for College employees and non-employees in accordance with University and RCUH policies and procedures involving application of standard policies and regulations and widely accepted methods and practices.
11.
Assists in developing, managing and updating the college's administrative employee travel calendar and other administrative calendars.
12.
Maintains and provides procurement information for tracking College budgets.
13.
Assists senior specialists with updating the Hale Kuamo'o curriculum databases.
14.
Maintains and safeguards fiscal documents; maintain a variety of file formats and archive copies as needed.
15.
Ensures compliance of fiscal matters in accordance with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
16.
Supervises and trains student employees in the medium of Hawaiian.
17.
Communicates and interacts entirely through Hawaiian with a broad range of Hawaiian speaking communities that are served by the college.
18.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education and Professional Work Experience: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Hawaiian Studies or related field and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing support to higher education administration and senior specialists; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of College administration services through the medium of Hawaiian and English demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with higher education.
Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of College administration services.
Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software.
Four years of Hawaiian Language or Hawaiian Culture coursework.
Knowledge in the Hawaiian language, history, and culture.
Desirable Qualifications: 1.
Conversational fluency in Hawaiian language.
2.
Knowledge of Kumu Honua Mauli Ola Hawai'i philosophy and the College's Mauli Ola P-20 education programs.
