DATE POSTED:4/25/2024 JOB TITLE: Patient Access Representative I (50%FTE) RECRUITMENT NO: KCH 24-138 JOB LOCATION: KONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL – Imaging SALARY: $1659/month @50% FTE ($3318 @100%) (SR11; BU03) JOB DUTIES: The position is primarily responsible for independently providing a variety of clerical and office assistance for the Imaging Unit.
This position will assist the Diagnostic Imaging Services unit in scheduling appointments, registering patients to be seen in the Imaging Unit, obtaining accurate patient demographic and insurance information for both primary and secondary carriers, accurate verification of benefits and eligibility maintaining files, processing information for billing purposes, accepting payment for services, answers the telephone, greets patients and checks in scheduled patients, processes referrals/transfers and performs other duties as assigned.
Incumbents of this position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements.
Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently.
In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED preferred.
EXPERIENCE: General Clerical Experience: Two and one-half (1/2) years of clerical work experience which involved performance of a variety of clerical tasks and demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, common office appliances and equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, compare words and numbers quickly and accurately, operate various kinds of office equipment.
Knowledge of RIS/PACS, and EMR operations/functions is preferred.
Supervisory Aptitude: Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
DESIRED SKILLS: Knowledge of business English; grammar; spelling; arithmetic; common office appliances and equipment; computers; and office practices and procedures.
Ability to communicate and deal tactfully, respectfully with others; strong customer service skills.
Ability to interact and communicate with hospital staff, patients, visitors, family members, physicians, other health care organizations, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation and the community.
Ability to collect and use information to make sound judgments within scope of responsibilities.
Must be able to prioritize, manage, take direction and exemplify outstanding customer service behavior.
Ability to carry out a variety of standard office clerical procedures learn and apply pertinent statutory provisions, rules, instructions furnished in writing, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form; operate and maintain various common office appliances; prepare simple narrative and numerical reports; perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately; speak and write simply and directly.
CERTIFICATION: None required.
LICENSURE: None required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain-printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.

STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee.
