The purpose of the OSP Design Engineer II position is to utilize GIS mapping systems to accurately produce High and Low Level Centralized and Distributed Split Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) network designs.
Have knowledge of the following platforms: 3GIS, ArcGIS, ESRI, Google Earth and other OSP telco industry standard software platforms.
Prepare construction sheets and splicing sheets for new market designs.
Provide quality control feedback on new Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) designs.
This position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience with OSP underground and aerial telecommunication engineering, and/or a Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field.
The location of this position is flexible therefore could be based out of one of three offices: Blountsville, AL; Pilot Grove, MO; or New Gloucester, ME.
Or fully remote depending on location (HR needs to provide a list of states we will not hire people from)
Essential Job Functions:
•Work with OSP Engineering & Planning and review current OSP designs to understand current principles and practices.
(Per region)
•Review aerial plant per design standards and make recommendations to support new build’s following basic NESC requirements.
•Work with MRE and permitting to provide feedback for high cost make ready solutions, and aerial and underground permitting requirements related to ROW, Railroad and DOT permitting.
•Ability to self-start high level and low-level engineering using 3-GIS, and produce all associated support documents (Construction, splicing sheets, and bill of materials)
•Provide quality control feedback on new Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) designs.
•Responsible for updating designs using As-Built drawings.
•Will need to perform administrative tasks such as record keeping and documentation with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
•Ability to locate and correct discrepancies in maps and design.
•Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, to develop analytic data results, display information visually, and provide various reports that contribute to various projects.
•Utilize Google Maps/Earth, Adobe or Nitro, and Visio.
•Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; engineering degree preferred.
•Must be able to analyze and solve problems and perform effective troubleshooting.
•Strong understanding of outside plant engineering and construction.
•Knowledge of regional governing code.
•Prepare documentation packages for construction.
•Ability to meet project deadlines.
•Willingness to learn new skills, software, and technologies.
•Excellent verbal and written communication.
•Valid driver’s license.
