We are currently seeking a Registered Professional Nurse IV for our busy Ambulatory Surgery Unit.
Our Ambulatory Surgery Unit provides nursing support for major and minor surgical procedures; provides a sterile and sanitary environment for the performance of surgical operations; provides proper control to ensure that pre-operative requisites of the hospital and medical staff are properly carried out; ensures that necessary equipment, instruments, and drugs are available to enable the surgeon and anesthesiologist to perform the work properly; and proactively provides technological support to the medical staff.
The Registered Professional Nurse IV is responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager in coordinating and supervising the staff, and managing the daily operations of the unit by fulfilling the technical and clinical functions, requirements, skills and competencies of the staff.
Also serves as a resource in all clinical matters and performs other duties as assigned.
In addition, this position will float throughout the critical care areas providing nursing support and first aid to patients brought in on emergencies, and assists the Emergency Room Physician in examination and treatment of patients.
This position may also provide nursing care to ICU patients as needed.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed by the adult (19-64 years) and to geriatric (65 years plus) patient groups.
Hilo is located on the east side of the island of Hawaii, and has a quaint old-Hawaii, small town atmosphere.
The hospital staff is community-oriented.
It is home to the Hawaii Community College, University of Hawaii, several excellent schools and convenient shopping.

JOB DUTIES: This position serves as an assistant to the nurse manager in providing nursing care and treatment services for the unit and assists in managing the daily operations of the unit.
This position assists with supervisory responsibilities over all shifts in the unit.
May be involved in planning and supervising health care programs and operations; and performs other related duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis on critical care nursing and/or administration is highly desirable.
Evidence of the appropriate training (e.
g.
official transcript of diploma) should be submitted with the application to be given credit for education.
A legible photocopy will be accepted.

EXPERIENCE: One and one-half (1 ½) years of professional nursing work experience.
One (1) year of experience in Short Stay (PACU) or Critical Care (ED or ICU) is highly preferred.
SUPERVISORY aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or administrative capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of nursing experience.
CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is required one (1) month after employment.
(ACLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is required six (6) months after employment.
Completion of a Critical Care course is preferred.
LICENSURE: State of Hawaii Registered Professional Nurse.
Evidence of licensure is required with the application.
