Job Description
The function of the Capital Improvement & Construction Project Coordinator position is to provide implementation, oversight, and support for small and mid-sized construction and facilities projects throughout the East Hawaii Region.
It is estimated that the project coordinator’s work will be initially split between our facilities in Hilo, Keaau and Pahala (70 percent in Hilo; 30 percent between Keaau and Pahala).
The Project Coordinator will direct and manage assigned projects while following organizational policies, programs, budget, and schedules to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position also directs assigned projects with adherence to planning, execution, monitoring, and closing within standard project management methodology.
Successful applicants will have experience with:
Project management and construction (three years of project management required; five years of construction preferred).
Managing and leading large-scale projects of $1M+ (three and one-half years required).
Creating and tracking projects (MS Project experience helpful)
Submitting and responding to RFI’s, maintaining a project budget, working with capital funding
Staying on budget and on schedule
Evaluating, selecting, implementation and maintenance of projects.
Healthcare; The Joint Commission and CMS experience preferred
Management, leadership and effective communication
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Graduation form a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Excess work experience of responsible administrative or professional/analytical work experience which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four years of successful study while completing a university or college curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (or equivalent) preferred; Active Hawaii contractor’s license preferred.

Medical Examination Requirement
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.
The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
