East Hawaii State Veterans Home dba Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, a part of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) is seeking a Registered Dietitian in Hilo, Hawaii.
The Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing medical nutritional therapy to long-term care and rehabilitation residents with a variety of medical conditions.
This position works in conjunction with facility Administrator, Director of Nursing, Nutrition Services manager(s), clinical staff and regional consultants to provide clinical nutrition care to residents in accordance to policies, procedures and Federal/State requirements.
The Registered Dietitian position works as an interdisciplinary team member and works under limited supervision.
*THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS ARE:* · Planning, organizing, developing and directing the nutritional care of residents in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulators that govern the Facility · Provides oversight and ensures compliance with the provision of quality food service and nutritional care to residents · Completes comprehensive nutrition assessments for residents and incorporates nutrition interventions into the individualized interdisciplinary plan of care for residents as indicated · Insures that all assessments and care plan meet professional standards of practice, reflect current evidence-based practice, and are in full compliance with all applicable regulatory statutes · Communicates with the interdisciplinary teams to provide professional guidance for assessing and implementing care strategies and monitoring nutrition and hydration status of residents · Assists in the training of Nutrition Services managers regarding Clinical nutrition care of residents · Serves as a resource to the facility regarding nutritional care through consultation and in-service education · Performs standard reviews and nutrition and food service audits in the facility · Act as a resource for the dietary services so that food services department is maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary manner Safety · Comply with all Company safety policies, regulations and requirements regarding fire and life safety · Comply with all Company safety policies regulations and requirements involving employee safety and patient safety.
This includes but is not limited to: a zero tolerance for harassment and violence; following infection control procedures; following safe patient handling as required with your specific job position · May be required to assist in the evacuation of patients during emergency situations · Meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility Residents’ Rights and Positive Relationships · Understand, comply with and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents’ rights · Promote positive relationships with residents, visitors, and regulators, to include presenting a professional appearance Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without Aid of Mechanical Devices) This position is very active and requires; · Walking, standing, reaching, bending, crouching, grasping, climbing, pushing, pulling and lifting objects · The ability to work at a rapid pace for an entire shift · The employee must regularly lift or move objects or equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and move objects weighing over 50lbs · Must be able to climb and maintain balance on ladders · Must have finger and hand dexterity sufficient to type, handle and manipulate instruments and operate departmental equipment · Have a working understanding of English: ability to read and write; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to verbally communicate with residents and others; ability to hear and respond to pages · Ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures.
· Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and when handling multiple tasks Other Functions and Responsibilities · Must adhere to Code of Conduct and Business Ethics policy, including documentation and reporting responsibilities · Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned · Other duties as assigned or needed · Ability to understand and apply training from in-service education and ability to instruct personnel during training education and staff meetings · This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work · This is a position in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Rotating shifts as well as holiday and working during inclement weather may be required At a minimum, the qualified candidate will have: a Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition degree or its equivalent and at least three (3) years’ experience in Long Term Care that includes clinical and administrative experience in Dietetics, be a registered Dietitian and possess a current license to practice as a registered dietitian in the State of Hawaii.
