Cyanotech Corporation is a world leader in microalgae technology, producing BioAstin® and Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica® Description Summary: The Accounting Manager is hands on position responsible for overseeing and leading the daily operations of the accounting department including the financial monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes and is responsible for ensuring strong revenue recognition procedures.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger functions and partnering with the Controller/Director of Reporting for the external audit.
This is a full-time exempt position with a solid reporting line to the Chief Financial Officer and a dotted line to the Controller/Director of Reporting.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This is a supervisory position with the Accountant, Accounts Receivable Clerk and Accounts Payable clerk as direct reports.
Essential Job Responsibilities: Perform accounting functions as assigned in accordance with US GAAP and internal control procedures, such as posting journal entries, preparing/reviewing monthly reconciliations, and analyzing accounting transactions.
Responsible for on-time completion of monthly close process with the Accounting & Finance team using Teamwork or similar technology platform.
Prepare quarterly sales in transit and revenue recognition journal entries and schedules to perform trend analysis and variance analysis to ensure proper technical accounting.
Oversee the posting and maintenance of general ledger accounts, payroll transactions, accounts payable and general ledger adjustments.
Prepare monthly sales tax information for processing of sales & use tax returns Partner with the Controller/Director of Reporting for the external audit to ensure efficient audits and meeting target filing deadlines.
Assists in preparing financial statements, work papers and supporting audit schedules for quarterly reviews and annual audits and provide explanations for significant Income Statement and Balance Sheet variances.
Identify and implement process improvements.
Provides training and mentoring to Accountant, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Sales, Order Management and Logistics teams to ensure compliance with internal controls.
Recommend and implement improvements to the processes.
Coordinate receipt of resale certificates for all wholesale customers.
Responsible for Credit Management, including coordinating completion and approval of customer contracts, as well as credit checks as needed.
Evaluates contracts to identify and ensure proper revenue recognition compliance.
Responsible for Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) updates and improvements to existing processes, including updating desk procedures and audit process narratives annually Other Duties: Assist Accounts Payable in printing manual checks Maintains financial security by adhering to system of internal controls.
Assist in ad hoc analysis and special projects as requested from the CFO and the Corporate Controller/Director of Reporting Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Physical Demands: May be required to sit for extended periods of time at a computer, talking on the telephone or Microsoft Teams.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an air-conditioned office environment, or remote work-from-home.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree with major in Business, Accounting, or other related discipline required.
Five+ years of relevant accounting experience in a public company preferred, with working knowledge of US GAAP.
Minimum of 3 years leadership experience Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Navision and Jet Essentials is a plus or similar type of ERP systems.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in using Microsoft Windows and Word.
Good in math and analytical aptitude.
Excellent verbal, written and telephone communication skills.
Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including time management, multi-tasking, and attention to detail.
Maintains strict confidentiality.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to learn new accounting software.
Able to perform the essential job responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.
