_WHERE YOU'LL WORK:_ Multiple positions are available within the Department of Taxation.

Collection Division * Collection Section (Oahu): The Collection section collects delinquent State taxes through office contacts, evaluates the taxpayer’s ability to pay through in-person meetings, telephone contacts, or by correspondence, and arranges for settlement of tax liabilities after review.
Compliance Division * Hawaii District Office: The Hawaii District Office provides a comprehensive and uniform compliance program for the district, which includes the auditing of taxes administered by the Department of Taxation, the collection of delinquent taxes, the rendering of taxpayer services, and the processing and controlling of documents and payments within the district.
* Kauai District Office: Under the general supervision of the Taxation Compliance Administrator, the Kauai District Office executes a comprehensive and uniform compliance program for the district.
This includes policies and procedures issued by the Director of Taxation such as the auditing of taxes administered by the Department of Taxation, the collection of delinquent taxes, the rendering of taxpayer services and the processing and controlling of documents and payments within the district.
_WHAT YOU'LL DO:_ Collection Section (OAHU) DTCA I: This position conducts and enforces the collection of delinquent State taxes through field contacts after office collection efforts have failed.
Accounts range from easy to moderately difficult cases requiring the application of accounting, legal and business knowledge, and employing investigative techniques.
Hawaii District Office DTCA I: This position performs specialized collections-related work that includes collecting delinquent taxes and enforcing relevant statutory requirements.
This position also conducts field contacts after office collection efforts have failed.
Accounts range from easy to moderately difficult cases requiring the application of accounting, legal and business knowledge, analyzing financial statements, and employing investigative techniques.
Kauai District Office DTCA I: This position performs specialized collections-related work that includes collecting delinquent taxes and enforcing relevant statutory requirements.
This position also conducts field contacts after office collection efforts have failed.
Accounts range from easy to moderately difficult cases requiring the application of accounting, legal and business knowledge, analyzing financial statements, and employing investigative techniques.

and much more! _WHAT YOU NEED:_ Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of applicable State tax laws, departmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures relating to tax collection and compliance, collection practices, enforcement of tax filings and collecting payments.
Ability to analyze financial records of individuals and business entities to determine solvency and location of assets, to negotiate and deal effectively with taxpayers and their representatives, and to obtain pertinent information in a complete and expeditious manner to resolve delinquent tax cases.
Required Experience: Applicants must have progressively responsible experience of the kind and quality described in the statements below and in the amounts shown below.
This includes any equivalent combination of training and experience.
* Specialized Tax Experience: One (1) year of experience in the tax field which required the application of tax laws and related regulations and procedures in collecting current or delinquent taxes, in preparing tax returns, or in determining tax liability.
* Specialized Collection Experience: In lieu of one (1) year of specialized tax experience, the candidate may also qualify if he / she / they possess one (1) year of experience performing collection activities such as contacting debtors and negotiating payment plans, evaluating financial records and identifying assets that may be used to satisfy debts, evaluating a debtors’ ability to pay, determining the most productive collection method to pursue, and/or using legal proceedings to satisfy the debt.
The experience must demonstrate knowledge of the collection process, account keeping methods and procedures, methods and procedures used in arranging for the collection of debt, the ability to review and analyze financial records or other documents to locate assets which may be used to satisfy debt, and the ability to communicate effectively with the debtors or their representatives.
* Substitution(s) Allowed: Successful completion of fifteen (15) semester credits of coursework from an accredited college or university, which included at least six (6) credits in accounting, auditing, or finance courses, may be substituted for six (6) months of the Specialized Experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Required License(s) or Certificate(s): Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii.
NOTE: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position.
The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.
