Rare Vintage Blue Morpho Butterfly Brooch - $89 (Ocean View)

Thomas L Mott invented the Blue Morpho Butterfly Wing Jewelry in the 1920's.
This beautiful brooch is a vintage replica of his work.
I bought this brooch in a second hand shop in Oakland California in 1973, so this is at least 50 years old.
It looked antique then, so it may be 70 years old or more.
The art was unique for it's day, as they painted scenes on top of the butterfly wing, then encased it under glass.
Besides jewelry, the butterfly wings were used for pictures where the entire sky was made of hundreds of these beautiful wings.
This lead to a craze for this type of art and the Blue Morpho Butterfly became harder and harder to find and was on the brink of extinction.
It is now only found in the jungles of South America.
